Hosted by Dan & Jessica : Pro Photographers

Not only are you going to be staying at a world class lodge, but you will also receive mentoring, help and guidance from two professional photographers with a combined 48 years of experience.

Dan is an Alaska veteran with years of experience of exploring the wilderness and photographing grizzly bears in Halo Bay and Kodiak Island.

Jessica has been published all over the world in outdoor publications, she also brings her amazing travel photo journalism and film skills for you to learn.

Ok you’re thinking about food now ? Right !

Meals are prepared by the lodge Cordon Bleu trained chef and utilize locally sourced ingredients as often as possible. A sample menu includes cream cheese stuffed French toast with homemade raspberry syrup, bacon and eggs for breakfast, snow crab cakes with chipotle aioli for an appetizer, a halibut chowder starter, blackened salmon with honey pepper sauce, roasted broccoli and rice pilaf for your main course, and rhubarb pie a la mode for dessert.

Lunches are pre-packed or prepared over a campfire depending on your destination for the day.

Accommodation Details

We have access to our home base which is called “The Lighthouse“. The Lighthouse features two double rooms and two single rooms with $0 single supplement charges.

It is also a private space for our workshop group to be alone where we will chat about your photography day, help with editing, speak with Jess & Dan or just a place to relax without other lodge guests around.

There is a large living room, 10-seat dining table, full kitchen, large ocean-view deck, and two full shared bathrooms. One with a tub, one with a stall shower.

We may place clients in one of the few cabins around the property or in the main lodge depending on the size of the group, some cabins come with private bathrooms, however we can’t guarantee availability at any time.

Do I Need To Be Fit ?

You don’t have to be Usain Bolt to join us but a good level of fitness always helps make the trip go smoother.

The length you decide to be on your feet or walking around is up to you.

Saying that you we recommend you are able to hike with your daypack with cameras for 2/5 miles.

No Mobile Signal

Expect there to be no access to a mobile phone service. There will be a satellite phone on board for emergencies.

If you want to bring your own, then you can also grab a Garmin Inreach handset, which you can buy before you come (subscription rates will apply). You can buy them on Amazon here. Garmin on Amazon

If your phone has wifi calling it should work over wifi. In Alaska CGI network is more common than T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon. SIM cards can be purchased in Anchorage. You will need an unlocked handset to take advantage.

Travel Insurance

YES ! Absolutely. If for any reason we are unable to run the tour due to adverse weather then you will need to make a claim on your travel insurance.

We recommend using AIG Insurance Travel Guard. Check your policy has trip cancellation insurance covered. Travel Insurance is a good idea anyway in case of injury or additional costs which can occur from basic travel. We also suggest travelguard.com for good insurance too.

Ensure all travel insurance covers cancellation.
